I want to avoid the massive crowds and the heat. What exact time does the ticket counter open.

The ticket counter opens exactly at 6:30 AM. Be there at 6:15 AM to be first in line. If you start the climb by 6:40 AM, you will reach the top before the sun gets too hot and before the large tour bus groups arrive.
