I want to plan a trip covering multiple regions. What's the current best timing advice?

The classic advice still holds: southwest (including Colombo, south coast, Kandy) is best December to March; northeast (east coast, Trincomalee) is best May to September. However, weather patterns can vary year to year, and some areas are pleasant outside peak seasons. Hill country (Ella, Nuwara Eliya) is generally good year-round but can be cooler and wetter at times. For multi-region trips, many people do south coast + hill country in the drier months for those areas, or east coast during its peak. Checking recent traveler reports and forecasts closer to travel time helps. Some regions have microclimates, so even in 'off' seasons there are often good days. Flexibility and having indoor/cultural backup plans is always useful.

Classic seasonal advice still works well. Weather can vary, so checking recent reports closer to travel helps.
