Want to explore on my own. Any roads or small places to visit?

You can drive or take local transport through the estates. Some small factories allow visits if you ask nicely. Just be respectful.

The main road from Ella to Nuwara Eliya has good views. Pull over safely.

Yeah roads through the hills are nice. Stop at viewpoints. Some places sell fresh tea.
