Unlike highly strict Western countries pharmacies in Sri Lanka are incredibly lenient. You absolutely do not need a formal doctors prescription to buy basic broad spectrum antibiotics strong painkillers or intense stomach bug medication. You simply walk into any established pharmacy explain your symptoms clearly to the pharmacist and they will instantly provide you with highly effective very cheap medicine. However if your symptoms involve a severe fever you must visit a clinic to rule out Dengue before taking anything.
