Remote US job, want Aug-Dec on the east then south when the monsoon flips. Free ETA is 30 days. I keep seeing a USD 500 digital nomad visa launched this year. Is that a real Immigration product or a blog?

Immigration-law write-ups this year describe a Digital Nomad Visa: 18+, remote worker or freelancer not registered here, income only from abroad, USD 500 first-year fee, about 1 year renewable, can rent, get a local SIM, open a personal bank account, enroll kids in private school. Process they describe goes through Digital Economy then medical then Department of Immigration. Local employment is not allowed. Details have moved, treat the live Immigration / Digital Economy pages as final. Blogs repeat a USD 2,000/month income floor - I have not seen that number on immigration.gov.lk myself, so call it blog-reported.

You may not work on a tourist visa. Extending a tourist ETA is for holiday stay, not a job. A Male visa run is not a work permit.

If you are only here 4 months, some people still just extend the tourist ETA and keep quiet. That is not legal advice and I would not do it on a US employment contract. Read the actual nomad page.

Reading the Immigration page before I open the laptop in a cafe.
