We only have ten days. Is it possible to see the ancient ruins take the train and still relax on the beach.

Yes but the daily pace will be incredibly intensely fast. You must hire a dedicated private driver to drastically seamlessly reduce travel times between Sigiriya Kandy and Ella otherwise you will waste days in transit.

If you only strictly have ten days it is usually vastly infinitely smarter to simply skip either the deep south or the cultural triangle entirely to avoid spending half your precious holiday completely exhausted inside a moving car.
