I plan to hike to Diyaluma and Bambarakanda falls. Is it culturally acceptable to swim in the rock pools in a two-piece bikini?

At the very top pools of Diyaluma, which are mostly full of foreign backpackers, a bikini is fine. However, at the bottom of the falls or at less touristy waterfalls where local village families swim, it is highly disrespectful. Locals swim fully clothed (t-shirt and shorts).

Board shorts and a t-shirt it is. Thank you for the culturally sensitive advice!

Definitely bring a sarong or a large towel to wrap around yourself immediately when you get out of the water. Do not hike back down the trail in just swimwear.

I always just wear a one-piece swimsuit with board shorts over it when swimming inland. It saves you from uncomfortable stares and respects the local culture.
