I want to take the train to Ella tomorrow morning. Can I book online right now or must I go to the station.

You cannot buy reserved tickets online on the same day. Online booking closes days in advance. However, you can just show up at the station and buy an unreserved third class ticket right before departure.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
