Chartering a seaplane from Colombo to Arugam Bay for surfing
We want to maximize our surf time on the east coast. Is it possible to charter a luxury seaplane from Colombo that lands directly near the high end surf camps in Arugam Bay.

Yes, Cinnamon Air operates private luxury seaplane charters. While they cannot land directly in the ocean due to the surf, they can land perfectly on the smooth waters of the Pottuvil Lagoon, which is just a 10 minute luxury vehicle transfer from the premium surf camps in Arugam Bay. It cuts a 7 hour drive down to a 45 minute scenic flight.
Make sure you clear your surfboard dimensions with the airline first! Seaplanes have strict cargo pod limits, so longboards over 9 feet might not fit.
Landing on the lagoon is incredibly smooth. Just keep an eye out the window, you can sometimes spot wild elephants drinking at the edge of the water as you descend.
If you have a large quiver of boards, sometimes it is easier to send your luggage ahead in a luxury van and just take a small bag on the seaplane.
The aerial view crossing the central mountains and dropping down into the dry zone of the east coast is one of the best flights you will ever take.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
