Some smaller shops or the market area have better prices than the fancy tourist ones. Ask your guesthouse where they get tea from, or check places without big signs for tourists. Smell before buying, quality matters.

Yeah avoid the big spice/tea tourist shops. Local places or smaller ones are better value. Galle has options.

Someone befriends you and offers a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to buy gems at wholesale prices and resell them abroad for huge profit. They may show you fake export certificates. The gems are worthless glass or low-quality stones.
