Did the storm cause massive damage to Hiriketiya or is it safe to travel there now.

The south coast beaches completely escaped the worst of Cyclone Ditwah. While the central highlands experienced severe flooding and landslides, coastal towns like Hiriketiya, Mirissa, and Galle only saw a few days of heavy rain and wind. There was absolutely no massive infrastructure damage or significant beach erosion there.

If you are planning to travel from the coast up into the mountains later, just double check the road conditions via Nuwara Eliya, as some minor mountain roads are still undergoing long term retaining wall repairs.

It is completely safe to travel to Hiriketiya now. The skies are totally clear, the ocean has settled back into its normal surfing patterns, and all hotels, cafes, and co working spaces are operating at full capacity without any lingering issues from the storm.
