Dogs everywhere in A-Bay and Kandy. Kid wants to pet them. Also we are trying not to buy 40 plastic bottles. What do people actually do in 2026?

Do not pet the street dogs, however cute. Rabies exists. If you get bitten, wash and go to a hospital the same day - post-exposure vaccine is the move, not Reddit. Tap water: locals drink it in some towns, most tourists do not. Boiled or filtered in guesthouses, or large refill bottles. Ice in decent places is usually from bags. I am not going to tell you the tap is safe.

We skipped the pre-trip rabies course, carried a filter bottle, never had trouble from rice and curry, did get a 24-hour thing from a beach smoothie. Dengue scared me more than dogs this year.

We will boil a flask if you ask. Please do not feed the pack at the gate.

No petting, filter bottle, flask. Kid is going to be sad about the dogs.
