While it is primarily a Buddhist festival honoring the sacred tooth relic, the major Hindu Devalayas in Kandy also heavily participate, bringing their own incredibly vibrant, colorful chariot processions into the streets.

Expect the city to be packed with thousands of pilgrims, fire dancers, and beautifully adorned elephants parading through the town every single night for ten days.
