Driving a rental tuk tuk at night is highly discouraged for foreigners. The vast majority of rural mountain roads and coastal highways have absolutely zero street lighting. You will be driving in pitch black conditions.

The main danger is not crime, but massive public buses driving recklessly without headlights, unmarked potholes, and completely unlit stray dogs or wild elephants sleeping on the warm asphalt. Always plan your journey to ensure you arrive at your guesthouse before sunset.
