We have a rental tuk tuk and are driving from Wellawaya up to Ella. The mountain pass is incredibly steep. Will the tuk tuk engine overheat or stall on the climb.

The 198cc engine can handle it, but you must drive it properly. Stay in 2nd or 3rd gear on the steep climbs. Do not lug the engine in 4th gear. If you feel it losing power, downshift immediately. Let the engine idle for 5 minutes at the Ravana Falls viewpoint to cool down the oil before continuing the climb to Ella town.

If you have 3 heavy people and luggage in the back, you might actually need the passengers to jump out and walk up the steepest switchbacks.

Watch out for the local buses! They take those mountain corners terrifyingly fast and will not yield to you.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
