Is it legal to fly a drone to capture the full height of Bambarakanda Falls, the tallest in Sri Lanka.

Because Bambarakanda is relatively remote and not in a high-security or densely populated area like Ella, police presence is minimal. However, legally, you still need CAA clearance for any drone flight in Sri Lanka. If you fly respectfully, keep away from other hikers at the base, and do not buzz the eco-lodges nearby, you are unlikely to be bothered.

The sheer height of it (263m) means you will lose line of sight quickly if you fly from the bottom. Be careful.

The wind drafts near the top of the falls are insane. I almost lost my Mavic up there.

Also, watch out for eagles. They nest in the high pine trees around the falls.

Do not fly over the small road leading to the falls, there are power lines.

Launch from the ticket office area, it is much flatter and safer.
