Is it safe to climb this rock and are there actually wild elephants nearby.

Elephant Rock is one of the most spectacular sunset viewpoints near Arugam Bay. Climbing the massive boulder is relatively easy and perfectly safe, offering sweeping, elevated views of the wild coastline and the dense jungle inland.

However, because wild elephants are present, you must be extremely cautious when walking back to the main road after dark. Always hire a local tuk tuk driver to wait for you and drive you out safely.

Yes, the name is highly accurate. Wild elephants frequently wander out of the nearby jungle at dusk to drink from the lagoon located right at the base of the rock. Watching them from the high vantage point is an incredible experience.
