If you book a reserved first or second class seat, there are overhead luggage racks above the seats that can easily accommodate medium sized backpacks. However, they are generally not large enough for massive, heavy suitcases.

If you have giant suitcases, you will likely have to leave them at the very end of the carriage near the doors, which means you need to keep a close eye on them whenever the train stops at a station.

In the unreserved third class sections, floor space is incredibly tight. Bringing massive suitcases into an overcrowded third class carriage will make your journey extremely uncomfortable and frustrate the local commuters.
