Is there any place near Colombo or Kandy that rescues elephants without making them perform.

Skip Pinnawala and visit the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe. It is further away, but it is a genuine rehabilitation center. They feed orphaned calves and release them into the wild. No riding allowed.
