Is the wooden steam box treatment worth trying, or is it just a gimmick?

It is incredible. They enclose your entire body (except your head) in a wooden cabinet that is pumped full of specific herbal steam. It detoxifies the skin and relaxes the muscles, usually done right after a full-body hot oil massage.

Make sure you go to a registered Ayurvedic clinic or a high-end resort spa, not a cheap beachside massage shack, to ensure you are getting the proper medicinal herbal blends in the steamer.
