Absolutely book the 3:30 PM garden tour at Lunuganga. It is the best time to see how Bawa manipulated the sunlight and framed the views of the Dedduwa lake. It is a masterclass in landscape architecture.
While the estate is incredible, Bentota is known mostly for quiet, high end luxury resorts. You will not find wild beach raves there.
Honestly, the sunset over the lake at Lunuganga with a gin and tonic in hand is better than any beach party you will find.
If you want an actual rave after the garden tour, you will need to catch a train or taxi a bit further south to Hikkaduwa. That is where the real parties are.
Take note of the subtle Italian Renaissance influences Bawa mixed with traditional Sri Lankan structures at Lunuganga. It is brilliant.
