It is highly illegal and incredibly dangerous. Feeding wild elephants habituates them to vehicles and roads, increasing the risk of tragic accidents. The DWC heavily fines anyone caught doing this. Please observe them from a safe distance inside a safari jeep and do not throw food from the highway.
