Paying online agents for fake drone permits to film elephants in Minneriya
4 Answers from travellers
Total scam! The Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) almost NEVER issues drone permits for Minneriya because the noise distresses the elephants. Any site claiming to get one in 24 hours is forging documents. If caught with a fake permit, your drone will be confiscated and you face jail time.
I met someone who used a fake permit. The park wardens verified the QR code, found it was fake, and arrested his driver.
Real CAA approval takes weeks and requires clearance from the Ministry of Defense. Never use third-party broker websites.
Only apply through the official portal of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL).
