Finding safe late night tuktuks after Ahangama beach parties
6 Answers from travellers
There are always tuk-tuks parked directly outside the big clubs like Lamana or Trax. However, they operate a night tariff mafia and will demand triple the normal price because they know you are drunk and have no other options. Walk 100 meters down the Galle road away from the club exit, flag a passing driver, and you can negotiate a much fairer rate.
Whatever you do, do not try to walk. The stray dogs and speeding buses are too dangerous in the dark.
Sometimes it takes 15 minutes of searching on the app, but usually someone accepts it eventually.
Or use the PickMe app! If a driver accepts, the price is locked in electronically and you bypass the street negotiations entirely.
The absolute safest option is to ask your guesthouse owner to pre-book a driver to pick you up at a set time.
