Arugam Bay has so many western cafes. Where can we find the authentic, heavily spiced East Coast Muslim Biryani in Pottuvil.

You have to leave the tourist strip of Arugam Bay and take a 5-minute tuk-tuk into Pottuvil town. Look for the local Muslim eateries near the main junction. They serve incredible Sri Lankan-style Biryani with a roasted chicken leg, spicy onion sambol, and a boiled egg. It is cooked in massive pots and usually ready by 12:30 PM. It sells out fast!

The local spot opposite the mosque in Pottuvil makes the best biryani I have ever had.

Make sure you eat with your right hand only! It is the cultural norm in the local Muslim restaurants.
