Guesthouse wants to keep our passports overnight for a police form - photocopy or a hard no
Third hotel in a week. First two scanned the bio page and gave it back. This one in Kandy says police collection in the morning and they need the book. We have a train to catch in our heads. Is this a real Sri Lanka thing or the start of a story.

I photocopy or photograph the bio page, you sign the register, passport stays in your bag. That satisfies the book I have to keep. Anyone who wants the physical passport "for police tomorrow" can take a colour copy. If they insist, you can offer to walk to the station with them. Do not leave the only document that gets you on a plane in a reception drawer.
Same energy as a tuk who wants your passport as "security" for a helmet. No.
Scam Watch: kandy
TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
