Kabalana itself (the main beach break) is sand, so you do not need booties there. However, if you surf The Rock (the A-frame point break right next to it), it is a sharp, shallow reef. If you wipe out on a low tide, you will get sliced up. "Reef rash" infections heal very slowly in the humid tropics. Bring booties if you plan to surf The Rock.

I stepped on a sea urchin at a reef break nearby and had to get the spines dug out. Wear them.

Good to know. I will pack my reef booties just in case I paddle out to The Rock.

If you get a cut, scrub it with lime or iodine immediately. Do not let it sit.
