Pidurangala is famous for the sunrise hike, but halfway up the rock, there is a massive, ancient reclining Buddha statue hidden under a rock overhang that many tourists completely miss while rushing to the top.

Just a short drive from Dambulla, the Aluviharaya Rock Cave Temple in Matale is another incredible hidden gem. It is historically massive, featuring ancient scriptures etched into palm leaves within deep, quiet caves.
