Lipton Seat is famous but very busy Are there any other hidden gem tea plantations in the hillcountry around Haputale that are quieter

Walk the trail from Haputale towards the Idalgashinna railway station through the Thangamale bird sanctuary. The path walks along the ridge line through gorgeous, completely empty tea estates and pine forests. You are literally walking on the edge of a cliff overlooking the southern plains. It is a stunning 3-hour hike and you will likely not see another tourist.

Check the train schedule if you walk on the tracks, the tunnels are narrow and dangerous if a train comes.

We did the Idalgashinna walk on the railway tracks. When the mist rolls in, it feels like a movie.

Pack a picnic, there are zero shops on that route once you leave town.

No, you just follow the railway tracks or the main estate road running parallel to it. Very easy.
