Yes, walk from Haputale town towards the Idalgashinna railway station through the Thangamale bird sanctuary. The trail walks along the ridge line through gorgeous, completely empty tea estates and pine forests. You will literally be walking on the edge of a cliff overlooking the southern plains. It is a stunning 3-hour walk and you will be entirely alone.

Make sure to check the train schedule if you walk on the tracks, the tunnels are very narrow.

We did the Idalgashinna walk on the railway tracks. It was magical when the mist rolled in.
