Lipton Seat is crowded. Are there any hidden trails through the tea estates in Haputale where we will not see other tourists.

Yes! Walk from Haputale town towards the Idalgashinna railway station through the Thangamale bird sanctuary. The trail walks along the ridge line through gorgeous, completely empty tea estates and pine forests. You will literally be walking on the edge of a cliff overlooking the southern plains. It is a stunning 3-hour hike and you will be entirely alone.

Watch out for leeches in the pine forest sections if it rained.

Make sure to check the train schedule if you walk on the tracks, the tunnels are very narrow.

Pack a picnic, there are zero shops on that route once you leave town.

We did the Idalgashinna walk on the railway tracks. It was magical when the mist rolled in.

No, you just follow the tracks or the main estate road running parallel to it. Very easy navigation.
