It is absolutely worth it. Belilena is one of Sri Lankas most important prehistoric sites, where the 30,000 year old skeletal remains of Balangoda Man were found. Today, the massive main cave houses a serene Buddhist shrine. The contrast between deep history and the spirituality of the shrine is amazing.

The hike up is stunning. You walk through steep rubber plantations and jungle. The humidity is tough, but the view of the valley from the cave mouth is spectacular.

There is a beautiful waterfall that cascades right over the entrance of the cave. You literally have to walk behind the waterfall to enter the temple area!
