Can you hike to the top of Sri Lanka's tallest waterfall, or just view it from the bottom road?

You can walk to the base easily from the road, but the hike to the very top (and the pristine upper pine-forest pool) requires climbing a steep, narrow trail covered in slippery pine needles. Wear proper hiking shoes, not sandals.

We hired a local guide from the nearby village. The upper pool is stunning, freezing cold, and completely empty compared to the crowded Diyaluma falls.
