Horton Plains World's End - how bad are the leeches really?
I hate leeches. Is the hike to World's End at Horton Plains worth it or will I be covered in leeches the whole way?

Leeches are definitely present, especially after rain, but they are not as bad as people make out if you take precautions. Wear long trousers tucked into socks, use a good insect repellent on shoes and ankles, and check every 20 minutes. The hike itself is beautiful and World's End is spectacular on a clear day.
If you go early (start by 6am) the leeches are less active. Also the crowds are smaller and you might actually see the view before the clouds roll in.
I did it last month. Used leech socks (bought cheap in Nuwara Eliya) and only found two on my shoes the whole day. The cloud forest is incredible.
