The only way to avoid the crowd is to be at the ticket counter at half past six in the morning. If you are among the first fifty people to climb, you will have the summit almost to yourself. Avoid visiting on Poya days or local public holidays when thousands of school children and locals visit the site. The second best time is around three in the afternoon, but it can be very hot.

Carry a small bottle of water but please do not leave any plastic on the rock. There are many wasps near the lion paws, so avoid wearing bright colors or making loud noises which can sometimes agitate them.
