While the early morning air at 5:00 AM before takeoff is quite chilly requiring a light sweater you absolutely do not need heavy winter jackets. Dambulla is located in the dry zone and the temperature rises incredibly rapidly the second the sun breaks the horizon.

More importantly the massive roaring propane burners positioned directly above your head inside the basket radiate an immense amount of intense heat downwards. You will actually feel quite warm during the flight. Wearing light easily removable layers is the perfect strategy.
