Are there proper stairs to the top of the fortress or is it a wild jungle hike.

Climbing Dambadeniya rock is relatively easy and perfectly safe. There is a clearly defined, moderately steep path with steps cut directly into the stone that leads you straight up to the ancient palace ruins, offering spectacular panoramic views of the entire Kurunegala district.
