How to get from Negombo directly to Sigiriya?

We are staying in Negombo after our flight. Is there a direct public bus to Sigiriya, or do we have to go through Colombo?

There is no direct bus. Take a tuk-tuk to the Kurunegala bus stand (about 1.5 hours from Negombo). From Kurunegala, you can catch a direct bus straight to Dambulla/Sigiriya. It saves you the nightmare of going south into Colombo traffic.

We have our bicycles in boxes, so a private van taxi is probably our best bet. Thanks for the pricing estimate.

Honestly, if there are two of you, just negotiate a private taxi from Negombo. It will cost about $45 USD total, take 3.5 hours, and drop you right at your hotel door.
