I want to see the big herds but don't want to contribute to harassment by too many jeeps.

Go early morning or late afternoon when fewer jeeps are around. Choose a driver who keeps a respectful distance and doesn't chase or crowd the elephants. Some drivers coordinate to give animals space. Minneriya and Kaudulla can get very busy during peak gathering months - consider slightly less famous spots or off-peak times if possible. Never get out of the jeep or make loud noises. The elephants' welfare comes first.

We asked our driver to stay back from the main cluster of jeeps. We still had excellent views and the elephants seemed more relaxed. Small choice makes a difference.

Will specifically request a driver who prioritizes animal comfort over getting close for photos.
