Do small beach shacks use filtered water for their ice or will it cause food poisoning.

In established beach cafes, reputable restaurants, and luxury hotels, having ice in your drinks is completely safe. The vast majority of these tourist facing businesses purchase commercially produced, cylindrical ice cubes made exclusively from industrially filtered, safe drinking water.

However, if you are buying a fresh juice from a tiny, rustic street cart or a very local shack, it is best to ask for no ice. Some extremely small vendors might freeze unfiltered tap water in blocks and chip it into glasses, which carries a high risk of upsetting your stomach.
