We went way too hard at a beach party last night. Are there any cold jungle waterfalls or natural rock pools inland from Kabalana Beach where we can go swim and recover today.

Yes! Hire a tuk tuk and drive about 45 minutes inland to the Kottawa Forest Reserve. There are several small cascades and incredibly cold, pristine natural rock pools hidden in the rainforest. It is the absolute best remedy for a southern beach hangover. It is quiet, shaded, and far away from the coastal heat.

Also check out Hiyare Reservoir. It is not a waterfall but it is a massive, silent jungle lake nearby. Swimming is restricted in some parts but the tranquility is exactly what you need after a rave.

On the way back to Ahangama, tell your driver to stop at a local kade for some spicy rice and curry. Nothing fixes a night out like a massive plate of dhal and sambol.

Stop on the side of the road and drink at least two King Coconuts thambili before you get into the water. The electrolytes will bring you back to life.

Do not drive a rental scooter inland if you are seriously hungover. The roads winding into the tea and rubber estates get very narrow and have blind corners with local buses flying through.
