Yes, during the peak eastern season from June to August, Arugam Bay arguably has the best, most vibrant backpacker nightlife in the entire country. It is heavily dominated by the surf culture, so the parties are very laid back, barefoot, and right on the beach.

Mirissa is more developed and features larger, slightly more commercialized club venues. Arugam Bay feels much more like a massive, friendly beach bonfire party that lasts until dawn at places like Mambo or Whiskey Point.
