The central Main Point break in Arugam Bay is absolutely not suitable for beginners. During the peak summer season it gets incredibly crowded heavily localized and is dominated completely by highly skilled advanced surfers catching massive fast waves.

However the surrounding area is a complete beginner paradise. You simply hire a tuk tuk to take you slightly south to Peanut Farm or Elephant Rock. These spots offer brilliant uncrowded sandy bottom waves that are perfectly gentle and safe for learning to pop up.
