Is Hiriketiya beach good for beginner surfers?

I have never surfed before. Are the waves soft enough to learn at Hiriketiya.

Yes, Hiriketiya bay is excellent for absolute beginners. The inside of the horseshoe bay has a soft, sandy bottom and very gentle rolling white water that is perfect for learning.

Be aware that while the inside is great for beginners, the outer reef break is strictly for advanced surfers. Just stay close to the shore and you will be safe.

You will find several affordable surf schools right on the beach where you can rent a large foam board and hire a local instructor for your first lesson.
