Is it safe to take overnight trains and which class is best for safety and comfort?
I want to take a night train. How safe is it and which class should I book for security and comfort?

Overnight trains are generally safe, especially in 1st and 2nd class reserved. These have locked compartments or reserved seats with more security. 3rd class is cheaper but can be crowded and less secure for overnight travel. Keep valuables close and use a small lock on your luggage. Many travelers take night trains without issues, but it's sensible to be cautious with belongings and avoid flashing expensive items. Women traveling alone often prefer 1st or 2nd class for extra peace of mind. The trains are a classic Sri Lankan experience and most journeys are uneventful.
2nd class reserved is a good balance of comfort and safety for overnight trains. Keep valuables with you and use a small lock on bags.
