Yes Ambewela is situated incredibly high in the central mountains and is officially known locally as Little New Zealand. The early morning air specifically before the sun fully rises can be remarkably biting and fiercely cold often dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.
You absolutely must wear a thick warm fleece jacket or a highly effective windbreaker while waiting completely exposed on the open platform.
