We are visiting in the summer. Will we see any blue whales.

It is highly discouraged to attempt whale watching in Mirissa during August. This is the absolute peak of the southwest monsoon season. The Indian Ocean becomes incredibly rough featuring massive treacherous swells and severe winds.

Because the ocean is so turbulent spotting the whales is practically impossible and the violent boat ride guarantees severe seasickness for almost everyone on board. Highly ethical operators completely shut down their tours during these summer months for safety reasons.
