Yes, Kelaniya is a perfect half day trip from Colombo. It only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get there by tuk tuk or Uber from the city center, depending on traffic. Spending two hours exploring the temple and its magnificent paintings is usually the perfect amount of time.
