August is a wet month. Will they stop the massive parade if there is a thunderstorm.

The Kandy Esala Perahera is a deeply sacred centuries old ritual. It is absolutely never cancelled or postponed due to rain. The massive procession of elephants dancers and drummers will march through the streets regardless of torrential monsoon downpours.

If you have purchased balcony tickets you are usually highly protected by the overhanging roofs. However if you plan to sit on the street level pavement you must absolutely pack a heavy duty rain poncho and a small umbrella because the show will aggressively go on.
