I love multi day mountain treks in remote terrain. Is the Knuckles range in central Sri Lanka actually challenging enough for experienced hikers and what trails should I focus on.

The Knuckles range is genuinely Sri Lanka best kept secret for serious trekkers. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring incredibly diverse ecosystems from cloud forests to grasslands and dramatic peaks. Popular multi day routes include the Mini World End trek, the Dothalugala summit, and the challenging two day Meemure village to Corbett Gap traverse. Hiring a registered local guide is mandatory for most trails.

Weather in the Knuckles changes rapidly so always pack waterproof gear, warm layers, and a reliable headlamp. The best months for trekking are January through April when conditions remain mostly dry and clear. Accommodation in remote villages like Meemure offers genuine homestay experiences with traditional meals cooked over wood fires.
